How to use a database

When Using a Database, Remember to:
  • Use ‘Advanced’ Search (not ‘Basic’)
    • Tick Box for ‘Full Text’
    • Use ‘NOT’ to Eliminate ‘Clutter’ from Results (AND and OR are also handy)
  • Use Academic Language (e.g. adolescents not teenagers)
  • Read the Margins! (use them for good search terms and to narrow your search results)
  • Read the Subject Headings and Abstract First (to decide if it’s worth your time to read more)
  • Get the APA Citation for your Bibliography (then your reference will be perfectly correct!)
  • Email or Export the Article (so you have it for later)
